Walking in the Dark

How do you know that you are surrounded by love? When you have friends who send your sick pugpug a get well card, use all six of his names on the envelope, and talk about his "balanced qi." He and I both thank you more than we could ever say.

In 13 years, the little guy has never had anything more than annual wellness check-ups, but his liver, as our beautiful holistic vet says, is angry. After a few days in the hospital, he's home. He's on both Eastern and Western medications, but we're going to see a specialist on Wednesday because the numbers are still too high.

We're hoping they can pinpoint the cause of the inflammation, so all good vibes are appreciated. The scans aren't showing any troubling masses and with the enzyme levels, they pretty much ruled out cirrhosis. Other than sleeping a little more than usual, he's still acting like a silly pug and grumbling for food and running in circles when it's time to eat. I tend to get quiet and disappear when things like this are going on (plus the end of the semester stuff and a migraine that took me out for a few days last week), but I don't know why I do that when I have such an incredible support system. I am so fortunate to have all of you in my life.

Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light.
