A Little about the Author
As a higher education
professional, Melissa has worked for universities across Central Florida since
2007. She has served as an instructor, teaching and learning coordinator,
associate dean, and, in her current position, as the Faculty Development Specialist
in the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence at Saint Leo University. At
SLU, Melissa works to bring innovative technology solutions, mindful practices,
and design thinking to geographically dispersed faculty who teach across
multiple modalities. Her professional interests include learning analytics,
progressive education, and transformational leadership. She continues to teach
writing and literature courses and believes being called “obnoxiously excited”
about teaching is the best feedback she has ever received.
Most of her creative writing falls under the creative non-fiction genre and she enjoys experimenting with epistolary styles, micro essays, stream of consciousness, and lyrical ballads. Her essays often examine revelations and redemption, reflective insights, and relationships with a focus on self-awareness, lesbian and queer communities, and nature.
